Numerous tools techniques are being tested or developed to curtail upstream of invasive carps while minimizing effect native species. Underwater sound is one technology that has shown promise as a deterrent laboratory ponds considered for use at bottleneck locks dams reduce risk moving uninvaded areas. To test this management-relevant scale, an underwater acoustic system (UADS) was designed installed Lock 19 on Mississippi River 2021. The experimental UADS operates continuous schedule 80 hours off allow comparisons fish behavior during varying environmental, operational, navigation traffic conditions. Two telemetry systems, operating 69 307 kilohertz, were deployed evaluate how may affect movement During 2021–22, Carp twice likely pass over into lock when it compared on; however, Bigmouth Buffalo, fish, 1.2 times more make passage on.

Evaluation of underwater acoustic propagation model (Ray theory) in a river using Fluvial Acoustic Tomography System

Underwater acoustics is widely used in many applications, such as oceanography, marine biology, hydrography, fishery, etc. Different models are introduced to simulate the underwater acoustic propagation in the oceans and the seas. In this study, the Ray Theory model is used to simulate the acoustic wave propagation in a shallow-freshwater river (Gono River) located in western part of Japan. The...

Acoustic positioning system for compact underwater vehicle

Currently a platform to investigate the underwater environment is required. In this paper, we propose an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) with an accurate positioning system. The positioning system is developed to be accurate enough to utilize the superior navigation ability of our AUV feature. The navigation ability is acquired by the variable vector propeller mechanism. The accurate positi...

An OFDM-based Underwater Acoustic Multimedia System

In this paper, we propose an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based underwater acoustic multimedia system. An essential feature of this system is that it offers larger power and schemes providing significant error protection for the transmission sensor data information that requires higher quality of service (QoS). To realize maximum resource utilization, or minimum total trans...

Adaptive Underwater Acoustic Communications

Underwater wireless networks consist of mobile and static nodes, which usually communicate using the acoustic channel since radio transmissions attenuate rapidly and optical communication is only suitable for short distances. The underwater acoustic channel is plagued with issues of high transmission power requirements, rapidly changing channel characteristics, multi-path echoes, possible high ...
